There is so much pressure for people to look a certain way and all too often people become overwhelmed trying to fit into what they think is an ideal shape and size. Your body is already exactly the way it is supposed to be and accepting that make life much more enjoyable. When you are ready to take the next step towards being a happy and healthy person, here are 12 steps to get you started:
1. Affirm the positive aspects of your life
It only takes one step to get on the right track about health and happiness. Start the morning right by thinking or saying something positive about yourself and your life. Your positive aspects are more powerful than you can ever imagine, so recognize them and appreciate what you have. Know about your inner beauty and that it shines brighter than any exterior beauty. Set an intention to be positive and that intention will come to fruition if you continue to work on it. Be positive and the world will return that positivity to you.
2. Get some good friends
People who have good friends are more likely to live longer than people who do not have good friends. Having a large network of friends is one of the best ways to feel good. As you nurture your relationships, you will feel better about yourself and your friends will notice how much you care. Healthy relationships make your life so much more rewarding. If you would like to have more friends, then you have to seek them out. Once you find them, they are worth keeping. Enjoy!
3. Enjoy having less screen time
Electronic entertainment can be addicting and it can also drain your soul. Watching too much television can take away valuable time that can be used for something more positive and useful. You do not have to avoid all of it, but keep your television time to a minimum.
4. Don’t overdo it
Too much of a good thing is not a good thing anymore. If you overindulge in things that you love, you will eat, drink, watch, feel too much. An occasional indulgence is perfectly fine, but if you overindulge too often, the thing you love will not be as special anymore. Moderation is necessary in all aspects of life from eating, drinking, and even exercising. If you moderate, you will be able to enjoy your food, drink, exercising, over a longer stretch of time and will keep those special things special.
5. Rewards are good things
Not only is moderation important, but it is also important to give yourself a little treat every now and then. Perspective makes rewards more meaningful and if you cheat, it is more destructive to the goals. Realize that when you reach a goal, you should reward yourself for your positive behavior. To reach your goal, realize that cheat days need to be few and far between.
6. Move it and enjoy!
No matter where you live, you should figure out how to get outside and appreciate your surroundings. Being in nature, even on a paved path, is one of the best ways to feel good about yourself. Walk, jog, listen to music, go to the gym; just get moving.
7. Laugh it up
Laughter really is one of the best medicines. If you enjoy life, you will smile more, and if you smile more, you will enjoy life more. It’s a big circle that really works. Find something that will make you laugh and laugh hard and often. A good belly laugh can change your life, so laugh as often as you can. Don’t worry about what other think, because odds are, they will join you in laughter, too.
8. Love yourself
Love yourself and others will love you, too. It is very important to accept who you are, because if you accept you, then others will, too. Enjoy who you are and love sharing with the world. People will love being around you because you are so full of happy energy. You are the only person who can control your behavior, so you might as well make it full of love and positivity.
9. Feed your body with water
Most people do not drink enough water, but being hydrated is one way to make you feel better on the inside and look better on the outside. The body is mostly made of water, so it needs to be well fed with water. Your skin will look better and your cells will revitalize faster when you drink a lot of water. Drink up!!
10. Fruits and veggies are good for you
There are so many processed foods that are easy to find and taste really good. Unfortunately, this means that most people will eat the easy foods and avoid the unprocessed healthy foods. Get your fresh veggies because the nutrients and vitamins will make your body feel better. Your attitude will improve, too. When you go shopping, buy fresh fruits and veggies in packaging that makes it easy to grab and eat.
11. Go to the doctor
Pay attention to your health. Visit your physician once a year and your dentist twice a year. Getting your body evaluated so you know if there is anything that needs to be cared for professionally.
12. Practice gratitude
When you are thankful, your gratitude shines from the inside out. Accept what you have in your life and appreciate everything that you have. You can be thankful for your job, your family, your health, your friends – anything and everything. Gratitude is contagious, so share the love!
You do have to work on being happy, but once you develop the habits, it is easier to maintain the happy way of life.
