Despite the fact that we should know better by now, many of us still spend hundreds of dollars a year on expensive beauty products that claim to “work miracles”. Trying to maintain a youthful wrinkle-free complexion at all costs often leads to many down the road of “plastic surgery” and “Botox”. It is completely understandable that with the social pressures placed on women these days, that many of us would be so desperate to try anything in order to improve the look of our skin.
However, the secrets to perfect skin may have been under our noses the whole time. Below we’ve listed 5 True Skin Care Tips that are guaranteed to work (I promise!)
1.) Sunscreen and Shade
When we are very young our mothers would put sunscreen on our noses and hats on our heads to protect us from the sun. As we get older we forget to do these things and instead opt for a “sun-kissed” glow.
However no matter how old you are “mother knows best” as dermatologist’s support that sunlight and UV is the #1 cause of premature aging. At risk of sounding like a nerd, we all need to protect ourselves from skin cancer. Wearing a shady hat, and making sunscreen application part of your skin care regimen is the best wrinkle fighting technique out there.
2.) Stop Smoking
If your wasting money on smokes and SKIN CARE products then something has got to go, and I recommend you quit smoking so you don’t need the skin care products anymore. Believe it when I tell you that smoking ages your skin “rapidly” its bad for your health and it makes you look awful what other reasons do you need to quit?
3.) Be Kind To Your Skin
We discussed before the “to scrub or not to scrub conundrum” and concluded that whatever you do, be gentle on your skin. If you want it to glow don’t over exfoliate or use excessive scrubbing that wears away the layers. Instead gently clean your skin with a hypoallergenic soap that doesn’t contain harsh sulfates. Your face should be patted dry, not rubbed and cleansed with water in the morning and at night
4.) Eat Healthy, Drink Water
If your diet is high in sugars and fats this will show on your skin. Try to drink the recommended 3 liters of water a day and eat lots of fruits and vegetables. For acne care we like to preach “everything in moderation” don’t be surprised that a few adjustments in your diet makes a huge difference in the texture of your skin especially on your face.
Although not everyone’s skin is particularly food sensitive, however if your break out after eating particular foods then you should take extra care to avoid them.
5.) Keep Calm, Self Love On
Don’t get mad at me when I say this but “we are going to get wrinkles, and age” no matter what you do your skin will change as you get older and no amount of creams, lotions and masks will fix this for you.
Although there are cosmetic options available out there, humbly ageing with grace is the best way to avoid “skin stress” or “vanity stress” because as soon as you come to terms with it the easier it will be.
Try to live a stress free life and follow these above suggestions to improve the health of your skin. However, at the end of the day a little TLC and self love may just be what you need to feel happy and comfortable once again.
